			DONATIONS The library welcomes donations for the purchase of materials, furnishings and programming. If you would like to donate in tribute to someone, please contact the director with more information about how you would like to recognize and honor that person. Some suggestions include donating to purchase a book on a topic that person enjoys or a favorite children’s book. A plaque will be placed inside the book with an inscription of the donor’s choice. With a donation of $100 or more, a plaque with an inscription of your choice will be placed in the library’s foyer on the donation pathway. Donations to purchase specific items for the library may be considered. Please contact the library if you would like more information. MEMORIALS A lasting memory of a person who has passed away can be a book or other item to be added to the library. The person who has died may have had a favorite area of interest such as gardening or history that would afford an opportunity to make a welcome addition to the library’s collection. Memorials include a plaque placed inside the cover of the book with an inscription of the donor’s choice. ADOPT-A-BOOK There are many books in the library’s collection that have been there for a very long time, whether because they are classics or just favorites of everyone. Because we want to continue to share these items with many generations, they sometimes need to be replaced as they wear out. If you notice a book appears to be worn out and is ragged looking, the library would welcome a donation to replace it. We would include a plaque inside the cover recognizing you for your donation.
	The purpose of our Friends group is to promote the Washington District Library, stimulate public support, help to define library needs to the community and provide volunteer services. Friends assist with special events, sponsor book sales, underwrite youth and adult programs, replace worn popular books and volunteer to help with special projects in the library. VOLUNTEERING There are many excellent opportunities to assist with a variety of activities at the Washington District Library. Volunteers provide a valuable service to the library. We ask that each person volunteering dedicate a couple of hours at a set time weekly to work in the library. The list of tasks can change frequently and no library skills are necessary.
